2022 LACUS Conference
Call for Participation

The 2022 annual conference of
the Linguistic Association of Canada and the United States
will be held
August 2-5, 2022 at Molloy University

hosted by the School of Education and Human Services
and the English Department

Invited speakers:
K. David Harrison, Swarthmore College,
who will be speaking on environmental linguistics

Brian Joseph, Ohio State
Jeffry Massey, Molloy College

The conference theme is
Linguistic Journeys:
Exploring Language across Time and Space

True to this year's theme, all presentations will be available to both on-site and remote participants.  All on-site presentations will also be Zoomed.  All virtual (Zoomed) presentations will be available in the same room as the face-to-face ones.

Abstracts.  While abstracts presenting empirically grounded investigations in any theoretical framework into aspects of the conference theme are especially welcome, LACUS invites abstracts representing a broad range of approaches to language, including interdisciplinary topics and innovative ideas.  The following list of topics is intended as suggestive rather than comprehensive or restrictive.
  • Environmental linguistics
  • Sociolinguistics
  • Dialectology
  • Ethnolinguistics
  • Diachronic linguistics
  • Developmental linguistics
  • Context and meaning
  • International communication
  • Linguistic standardization
  • Group interactions in different settings
  • Changes in group interactions over time

The Ruth Brend Fund provides financial support to help defray costs of attending LACUS meetings for members from countries with weak currencies.  The Presidents Prize Fund helps pay for prizes awarded to the best student and post-doctoral papers presented at each annual LACUS conference.

Because of uncertainties created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the LACUS Board of Directors have decided to hold the conference in a hybrid format.  We expect there to be on-site presentations at the planned venue (Molloy College) AND virtual (live-streamed) presentations.  ALL presentations (on-site and live-streamed) will be available to ALL attendees, those who are on-site AND those who are participating in LACUS via Zoom.  (This means your presentation will be Zoomed even if you are presenting in person on-site.)
