2023 LACUS Conference
Call for Participation
The 2023 annual conference of
the Linguistic Association of Canada and the United States
will be held
July 5-7, 2023 at The University of Toledo
hosted by the Department of World Languages and Cultures

Alice Gaby, Monash University (Australia)
Ryoko Sasamoto, Dublin City University (Ireland)
The conference theme is
Linguistics and Communication:
Research and Teaching / Learning
All presentations will be available to both on-site and remote participants. All on-site presentations will be streamed via Webex; all remote (Webex) presentations will be available to on-site participants in a meeting room at The University of Toledo.
Abstracts. While abstracts presenting empirically grounded investigations in any theoretical framework into aspects of the conference theme are especially welcome, LACUS invites abstracts representing a broad range of approaches to language, including interdisciplinary topics and innovative ideas. The following list of topics is intended as suggestive rather than comprehensive or restrictive.
The Ruth Brend Fund provides financial support to help defray costs of attending LACUS meetings for members from countries with weak currencies. The Presidents Prize Fund helps pay for prizes awarded to the best student and post-doctoral papers presented at each annual LACUS conference.
Important Dates. The following is the planned timeline for LACUS 2023:
Presenters are required to be members of LACUS and to be registered for the conference. Because of uncertainties created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the LACUS Board of Directors have decided to hold the conference in a hybrid format. We expect there to be on-site presentations at the planned venue (The University of Toledo) AND virtual (live-streamed) presentations. ALL presentations (on-site and live-streamed) will be available to ALL attendees, those who are on-site AND those who are participating in LACUS via Webex. (This means your presentation will be available remotely even if you are presenting in person on-site.)

- 19 APR 2023: Notification of acceptance / rejection
- 30 APR 2023: Deadline for receipt of confirmation of attendance from presenters
- 5 MAY 2023: Deadline for receipt of presenter registration and membership fees
- 15 MAY 2023: First release of preliminary program
- 5-7 JUL 2023: LACUS Conference
- 5 JUL 2023: Board meeting, registration, reception, opening plenary.
